An event 1000 Bar Dekho North East Dekho under the tag line of “DEHKO APNA DESH” and “FIT INDIA” is being organised by the field office of the Ministry of Tourism, India Tourism Guwahati from 7th -17th March 2021.
“1000 Bar Dekho North East Dekho” is part of the activities The Ministry of Tourism carries out regular promotional campaigns and events to showcase the unique tourism products and sights of the beautiful North East region to the potential travellers under the Dekho Apna Desh initiative.
As part of this initiative, Sanjay Bahadur a solo cyclist will cover 1000 km by cycling across the state of Assam. The journey kicked off on 7th March in the morning from Bir Lachit Ghat on Brahmaputra Riverbank, Guwahati.
A virtual curtain-raiser was organised a day earlier on 6th March 2021 to the 1000 “1000 Bar Dekho
North East Dekho” event. The session was addressed by Rupinder Brar, Additional Director General, Ministry of Tourism, Government of India.
Said Rupinder Brar, Additional Director General, Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, “The natural beauty and cultural richness of the North East are being brought to viewers through this unique and interactive way through the eyes of a solo cyclist who will familiarise us with so many wonderful experiences.”
During the virtual event, “1000 Bar Dekho North East Dekho”, Sanjay Bahadur spoke about the route that he would be following in the next 10 days starting from Guwahati to Nagaon, Dergaon, Sivasagar, Duliajan, Dibrugarh, North Lakhimpur, Biswanath Chariali and Dhekiajuli.
The session was joined by select professionals who are passionately engaged one way or the other in developing tourism in India’s North East Region. There were Supuraj Gogoi, Oken Tayeng, Phejin Konyak, Pema Bhutia (KCC, Sikkim), Julie Kagti, Jaideep Bansal, Sanjiv Valsan and Kamal Gill who joined the session.
The conversation flowed around the immense potential of the entire North East Region and how the flora fauna, the river and forests are a sheer delight. The region abounds in homestays and with fantastic connectivity both by road and air, the region is a tourist delight.
Sanjay Bahadur said, “The Northeastern region is a paradise which is waiting to be explored. This solo cycle ride will be a tribute to the river Brahmaputra. Our main aim is to showcase the North East in this engaging and fit way.”
He went on to observe, “A driving tour allows a great showcase of a destination but everything whizzes past in a hurry becasue of the speed. On a cycling tour the pace is unhurried and you can actually look into village houses and activities as you cycle past , smell the flavour of food being prepared and be immersed in the moment.”
As India is in unlock phase now and people are travelling across the country and destinations from the North Eastern Region are one of the most preferred destination among all age group travellers and for varied tourism products such as leisure, adventure etc.
During the virtual session, 1000 Bar Dekho North East Dekhomany misconceptions about the North East Region related to travel, connectivity, safety, food etc were discussed.
The North East Region comprises of Eight Incredible States and every state is different from the other state of the region and there is so much to explore!
