Every sip of tea I had during my stay felt like a warm hug, perfectly complementing the wild beauty of the surroundings.

When I first heard about Aamaghati’s architecture, I was intrigued – Mud and lime plaster? I thought. “That’s a harmonious blend of nature and heritage that somehow feels both ancient and cutting-edge.

Sadly, they passed away during the pandemic, but their vision lived on, thanks to the dedication of the resort’s owners. The building technique is fascinating. Mud, cow dung, and lime plaster, combined with thatched roofs and bamboo details are the construction highlights. The lime plaster, for instance, doesn’t just look earthy and beautiful; it also matures over 50 years, making the walls sturdier with time. It’s like a fine wine for architecture, getting better as it ages. Plus, cement use is kept to a minimum, which made me feel great about my eco-friendly vacation choice.

One of the interesting things about the resort is its layout. It’s designed to mimic Ranthambore National Park itself, with different zones capturing the essence of the jungle’s most famous spots. From the intricate bamboo details or the way the rooms are named after iconic forest zones, every detail feels intentional.

The Chauhan kings of Ranthambore knew how to prepare for a battle—or a good celebration, it seems. They stored their rations and liquor in places called Johra Bohra and dined with their forces in the grand Badal Mahal. Naturally, the visionaries at Aamaghati took inspiration from this and named their bar and dining hall after these legendary spots. As I sipped a cocktail at Johra Bohra, I had to smile at the thought of ancient warriors doing the same, though probably with something a bit stronger and less fruity. Johra Bohra, is a gem. The decor continues the local theme, and there’s a giant screen where you can watch wildlife documentaries or cheer for your favourite sports team.

The resort’s main restaurant, Baradari, is another tribute to history. It’s named after the royal court and dining area of the fort where the king’s family once feasted, surrounded by breathtaking views of the jungle. The walls are adorned with paintings by local artists, showcasing everything from forest landscapes to portraits of majestic tigers. Add to that the charming village-inspired decor, and every bite feels like a celebration of the region’s culture.

If you prefer dining under the open sky, Badal Mahal is where you want to be. This outdoor venue with its wicker chairs and laid-back vibe is charming. The food here is bold and diverse, perfect for those with adventurous palates. I tried dishes that I’d never heard of before, and honestly, I was delighted with the flavours. The combination of innovative cooking and rustic charm is unbeatable.

The rooftop terrace, High-Point, turned out to be my favourite spot. During the day, it offers scenic views of the jungle, and by night, it transforms into a magical stargazing haven. I was even treated to a private dining experience there, and let me tell you, there’s nothing quite like enjoying a meal with the stars as your ceiling.

If you’re travelling with a group, the resort can arrange private dinners in their Rang Mahal, a conference hall that doubles as a dining venue.

One of the resort’s standout features is its commitment to culinary excellence. Aamaghati takes its food seriously, with separate kitchens for vegetarian and non-vegetarian cuisines. Evenings are a magical affair at Aamaghati. Under the sprawling branches of a mango tree, an outdoor high tea brings together local flavours, art, and music. Pottery and bangle-making demonstrations add a touch of creativity, while the Chai ka Thela (tea cart) transports you to a rustic Rajasthani village. Even the wastewater gets a second life, nourishing the greenery that makes the place feel like a part of the jungle. There’s something deeply satisfying about knowing that the water from my morning shower might later help a tree grow.
