Known formally as the Rolex Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona, it includes models with reference numbers 6239, 6241, 6262, 6263, 6264, and 6265. What sets these watches apart are their “exotic dials” featuring unique colour schemes, such as the “panda” (white dial with black subdials), “reverse panda” (black dial with white subdials), and anthracite variants. These dials were initially less popular, but their distinct look and association with Paul Newman transformed them into coveted items.

Stepping back into the spotlight with new models, it celebrates its storied past while embracing modern innovations.
Solar Aqua has launched The Deep Bay Black
Solar Aqua has launched The Deep Bay Black

These timepieces pay homage to their historic roots, blending the original technical excellence with a modern twist. All the while, they proudly retain the meticulous Swiss craftsmanship that has always been their hallmark.

The history and roots of the company make for an interesting read. As the 19th century drew to a close, marking the dawn of an era dominated by department stores, Timothy Eaton embarked on a visionary journey. He set out to craft a line of exceptional watches that fused the precision of Swiss engineering with a design tailored for the North American market. This ambition gave birth to the esteemed Eaton watches, later evolving into the iconic Solar Aqua brand.

Solar Aqua has thus transcended from being a legendary name to a vivid reality, embodying a rich history and a proud tradition that couldn’t be left in the annals of time. There has been a great revival, a fresh narrative with a contemporary flair and an eye towards the future. It was a welcome-back moment for Solar Aqua!

Solar Aqua has launched The Deep Bay Black

A diver designed for extreme conditions, already tested in the dark depths of Buffin Bay at 2,136 meters, now in its black case version, it is ready to challenge the highest altitudes on the wrist of Himalayan climber Sanu Sherpa.

The Deep Bay Black boasts a 45mm case framed by a unidirectional steel bezel with a glossy black ceramic insert that emphasizes its bold and distinctive character.

Beneath the high-quality sapphire crystal, there are three dial variants in a gradient style, intentionally inspired by natural elements: the black of the deep sea, the blue of the clearest skies, and the green of rejuvenating nature. They all shade into a solid black at the bottom, with contrasting white superluminova indexes, hands, and markers.

Inside the case, equipped with a helium release valve that ensures extreme pro-dive functionality, beats the Swiss automatic movement Peseux P224, specially modified for Solar Aqua, guaranteeing absolute accuracy and precision.

Completing the three versions of the Deep Bay Black, with hidden lugs within the case, is a black silicone strap or alternatively a steel bracelet with a deployment clasp made from the same material and finish as the case.

This watch is designed for extreme conditions, not only for deep-sea adventures but for all those who want to fully experience nature with the spirit of exploration, unafraid of challenges. This is why Solar Aqua has partnered with Sanu Sherpa, a Himalayan climber and the first person in the world to have scaled all 14 of the world’s 8,000-meter peaks at least twice.

Inspired by his determination, inner strength, humility, and nobility of spirit, as well as his harmonious and respectful lifestyle towards nature, Solar Aqua has decided to include him in its limitless crew, already composed of very special athletes, and is getting ready to accompany him in his upcoming endeavours with a Deep Bay Black as a faithful climbing companion on his wrist.

The new one-of-12 Limited Edition was revealed on the very same day that it was confirmed the Nevera had broken yet another record: a new electric production car benchmark at the Nürburgring of 7:05:298, the Rimac Nevera broke the previous EV production lap record, beating it by 20 seconds on its debut at the famous and ever-challenging Nürburgring track.

This record is just the latest in a list of more than 20 that the Nevera has shattered this year.

In April 2023, at the Automotive Testing Papenburg (ATP), Germany, the Rimac Nevera claimed a spectacular 23 performance records in a single day, including 0-100 Km/h, 0-200 km/h and 0-300 km/h.

The Nevera had arrived at ATP track already holding the title of EV with the highest verified top speed, having achieved 412 km/h.

Rimac Group Founder and CEO, Mate Rimac, said: “In many ways the Nevera has reinvented the world of the hypercar, bringing new technologies, new abilities, and new levels of performance. But the simplest way we can demonstrate its capabilities is to go out and break records. And that’s exactly what we’ve done in 2023 time and again.”

He added, “The Nevera Time Attack is a Limited Edition that celebrates the achievements of the past year, wearing a bespoke livery inspired by the car that set off each of them. Built in a series of 12, each has already been spoken for by our customers keen to capture their very own part of performance car history. And it’s only August, too, so there’s plenty of time for more records to be broken.”

The Time Attack’s bespoke paintwork was designed in-house by the Rimac Automobili Color and Trim team and hand-applied to create a perfect finish. The Nevera has toured the world breaking records and features a base of Squadron Black, with Lightning Green highlights, including a pair of stripes running from front to rear.

This bespoke shade of Lightning Green is inspired by a peculiar weather phenomenon that happens before a storm when charged ionized particles give the sky a beautiful, powerful vivid green hue. It’s a visible warning of the power about to be unleashed.

The colour is also a direct homage to the e-M3 – Mate Rimac’s converted electric BMW 3 Series that was independently verified by the FIA in 2012 as the fastest accelerating electric vehicle in the world at the time. Rimac’s first record breaker, and the genesis for the Nevera.

The Time Attack’s bespoke touches carry through to the interior, which is finished in a base of black Alcantara, highlighted with accents and contrast stitching in the chosen exterior shade. Each example features bespoke ‘Time Attack’ stitching on the seat backs and an engraved ‘Time Attack: 1 of 12’ plaque.

Joseph Tayar, Director of the Al Habtoor Prestige Division, commented on the record-breaking Nevera: “Celebrating a year of unparalleled performance accomplishments, the Nevera is a testament to Rimac Automobili’s relentless pursuit of excellence in the hypercar realm. It’s an honour to offer this record-breaking marvel to our customers in the UAE, and we eagerly anticipate its presence.”

Customers in the UAE can order the record-breaking Nevera, which has already been named one of the best Hypercars of the year. The Nevera will be a staple at the Al Habtoor Rimac showroom, expected to open in Q1 of 2024.

Famous Bentley Blower reborn as Blower Jnr – 85 % scale recreation by Little Car Company https://www.todaystraveller.net/bentley-blower-reborn-by-little-car-co/ Sun, 27 Aug 2023 08:31:25 +0000 https://www.todaystraveller.net/?p=52664 Bentley Motors and The Little Car Company unveil a road-legal, 85 per cent scale recreation of the most famous Bentley in the world – Blower Jnr.

‘Blower Jnr’, a recreation of the 1929 4½-litre Supercharged Team Car No. 2 in Bentley’s Heritage Collection, is the first road-legal car from The Little Car Company and the most sophisticated city car ever built.

Blower Jnr
Blower Jnr

Crafted by hand to the same standards as any Bentley, and adorned with beautiful details all inspired by the original Team car, Blower Jnr is built around a 48V electric powertrain with a 15 kW (20 bhp) motor, meaning a top speed of 45 mph / 72 km/h in the UK and EU (25 mph / 40 km/h in the USA due to (legislation) and an expected range of around 65 miles, with tandem seating for two adults.

A Faithful Homage

Beyond the headline figures, the beauty of Blower Jnr is in the recreation and repurposing of details from the original car.

The frame is painted steel, to which an authentic chassis specification is attached. Leaf springs and scaled-down, period-correct friction dampers bring a comfortable ride, while Brembo disc brakes at the front and drums at the rear provide the stopping power. The electric motor is mounted across the rear axle, while the batteries and drive electronics are all housed in a hidden undertray.

The bodywork is crafted in two sections, and while the rear body structure is crafted in carbon fibre rather than being an ash frame, it’s covered in impregnated fabric, just as the original. The bonnet, with its multiple cooling louvres, is hand-crafted in aluminium using traditional techniques and fastened with beautiful leather buckled bonnet straps.

At the front of the car, the supercharger now houses the charging port that connects the onboard charger to any Type 1 or Type 2 socket. It’s surrounded by the famous Bentley mesh grille, in an authentic nickel-plated radiator housing.

At first glance, the dashboard looks like a scaled-down replica of the original, with Engine Turned Aluminium forming the dashboard itself. Other switchgear for the headlights and indicators copies the form and materiality of the magneto switches from the Team Car, while the battery charge gauge recreates the original ammeter.

The First Edition

The first 99 examples of Blower Jnr will be First Edition Models.

These will feature First Edition badging on the hood, door sill plate and dash as well as an engraved and numbered ‘1 of 99’ plaque.
All First Edition models will be finished in Blower Green, with matching painted chassis and wheels, and a Union flag hand-painted on both sides of the body as per the original, while the seats and interior are upholstered in the Dark Green Lustrana Hide used by Mulliner for the Blower Continuation Series.
The side panel and radiator carry the period-correct racing number, while the steering wheel is rope-bound.

The original Supercharged 4 ½ Litre ‘Blower’ Team Car No. 2

No other pre-war Bentley had an impact like the supercharged 4½-litre ‘Blower’ Bentley.

Blower Jnr
Blower Jnr

The Blower Bentleys was born from a philosophy devised by Sir Tim Birkin – notable racing driver and Bentley Boy – to extract more speed from the racing Bentleys of the day.

The cars competed in twelve races, the most famous being Team Car No. 2’s adventure at the 1930 Le Mans 24 Hours.

The Blower Continuation Series is the world’s first pre-war continuation, and the final car is in the final stages of build now.

A second Continuation Series of 12 Bentley Speed Six models is currently in development.

This company provides what mass-produced bands cannot: meaning. For travel aficionados craving a keepsake from a once-in-a-lifetime journey, this is it.

That’s right, this company is here to bring meaning back to the world of jewellery, and they do it with style.

Now, we all know that feeling of wanderlust, that insatiable desire to traverse the globe and collect memories like souvenir shot glasses. Well, guess what? Here is a company come up with the perfect solution for you, a keepsake that will make your once-in-a-lifetime journey unforgettable.

Personalized Masterpiece

Imagine this: You sign up with LUUM, and before you can say “bling” they send you a magical kit. Okay, maybe not magical, but definitely awesome. Inside this kit, you’ll find a bag for your chosen casting medium. They’ve got it all, folks, from sand to sediment, ash to brick. Who knew you could have a piece of jewellery made out of your favourite beach sand or your grandmother’s old brick? LUUM did, that’s who!

But wait, there’s more! They don’t stop there. They also include a handy scale for weighing your vintage noble metals. Gold, silver, platinum—you name it, they’ll weigh it! And just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, they throw in a ring sizer too. This company has got your back when it comes to finding the perfect fit for your finger.

Now, here’s the best part: once you’ve assembled all your precious materials and sent them back to the company, the real magic happens. They’ve got their smiths, their artisans, situated in none other than the vibrant cities of Los Angeles and Toronto. These talented folks take your unique concoction of sand, sediment, ash, brick, and noble metals, and with their skilled hands, forge them into magnificent rings.

So, jewellery enthusiasts, say goodbye to mass-produced bands that lack meaning and say hello to LUUM! They’ve got a contemporary style, an old soul, and a process that’s easier than you can imagine. Here is where you make your jewellery dreams come true, one unique ring at a time. Get ready to rock the world with your own personalized masterpiece!

The Process

Each LUUM ring is meticulously forged by a foundry artisan. The process begins not with a mould but with a casting medium provided by you (think sand from a secret beach, clay from wine country, or sediment from a mountaintop). Recent customers have sent in such media as rubble from the Berlin wall, soil from a childhood playground, and brick dust from a family home.

The name LUUM, “earth” in Mayan, is a homage to the first ring cast: Las Coloradas, Yucatan, Mexico

You also have the option to provide the metal for your ring. By sending in an unworn heirloom or outdated piece, you layer in yet another element of meaning.

The result, with every beautiful imperfection that hand craftsmanship promises, is one of a kind.

These jewellery elements are not tokens; they are time capsules ensconcing moments, places and people, plural.

These jewellery pieces are heirlooms, and they are storytellers

Co-founders Jeff Forrest & Jessica Nahmias.
Jewellery Magic: Co-founders Jeff Forrest & Jessica Nahmias.

The name LUUM, “earth” in Mayan, is a homage to the first ring cast.

It all began when co-founders Jessica Nahmias and Jeff Forrest celebrated their engagement with a road trip through Mexico’s Yucatan peninsula, unearthing treasures of Jessica’s heritage as they went.

Their trip included a visit to the Cenotes of Los Colorados from which the pair kept a sample of the mud known for its celestial mineral qualities. Jeff, an architect and furniture designer familiar with the casting process, melted down Jessica’s Bubbie’s gold jewellery and used the mud they had brought home from their trip to craft his wedding band.

LUUM is about storytelling and this one continues at an event that the pair attended with their friends, LUUM co-founders Jackie and Justin Treitz. When the topic of Jeff’s wedding band came up, they too were lovestruck by the tale behind the craft.

This time it was Justin who proposed; a business plan that would allow the group to share this beautiful idea with the world. Between the four of them, there is a storyteller (Jessica), designer (Jeff), brand expert (Jackie), and financial planner (Justin), all excited to help others forge their cherished memories into LUUM bands.

Jewellery Magic: Leftover process metal for donation
Jewellery Magic: Leftover process metal for donation

And the process cannot be easier. Once registered with LUUM, clients are sent a kit that includes a bag for the casting medium (sand, sediment, ash, brick, etc.) of their choice. There is also a scale to weigh vintage noble metals (gold, silver, platinum), as well as a ring sizer. Everything is then returned to the company who then engages its smiths – located in Los Angeles and Toronto – to forge the rings.

The casting process results in a small amount of leftover noble metal known as a sprue. This residual metal is donated to Ethical Metalsmiths, a non-profit organization whose mission is to connect consumers with jewellers dedicated to leaving as little environmental trace as possible. Their process and ethos align perfectly with LUUM’s.

Jewellery Magic: Finished ring, with a certificate of authenticity.
Jewellery Magic: Finished ring, with a certificate of authenticity.

Essentially, the company facilitates the creation of signature jewellery cast from a medium that matters and made from a noble metal with import. The time and cost investments are equivalent to a custom design, but the result is as unique as a fingerprint. When the casting medium meets the molten metal, it leaves a signature pattern, meaning each ring is as unique as the story behind it.

In brief, the company transforms noble metals, heirlooms, and casting mediums into forged memories.

  • CRAFT: Once they receive the completed customer Kit, their smiths create a custom ring mould using the personalised casting medium.
  • CAST: The customer’s choice of noble metal or heirloom(s) is melted and poured. Once set, their smiths carefully hand-finish the ring.
  • LOVE: It’s a personal ring, a piece of designer jewellery — a unique remembrance of a place, a person, a moment — that is shipped back to the customer.
