Dear Travel Trade Partners and Media, Greetings from Tourism Authority of Thailand on the occasion of Songkran.
We hope you all are healthy and safe in your homes, in these difficult times. The Songkran Festival in Thailand is a traditional Buddhist festival and the word “Songkran” is derived from the Sanskrit word samkranti, which means astrological passage.
It also marks the beginning of the Thai New Year and is celebrated from 13th to 15th April every year. This festival is commonly associated with the element of water which signifies love, thankfulness and compassion, and as a ritual of washing away negativity from the year before.
It is a time when family and friends gather to pay gratitude to elders and visit temples for prayer and offerings.
Although there might not be buzzing excitement in the streets of Thailand this year, however, our spirits are still high and positive for good and better things to come in the future.
On this occasion, we wish you all ‘Sawasdee Pi Mai’ or ‘Happy New Year’ and pray for our world to bounce back soon safer and stronger. We believe together we can overcome this pandemic with love and compassion for our people and the world. Stay Healthy and Stay Safe.
We are looking forward to welcoming you in Amazing Thailand soon!
Warm Regards,
Vachirachai Sirisumpan, Director Tourism Authority of Thailand, New Delhi
and Cholada Siddhivarn, Director Tourism Authority of Thailand, Mumbai
