The Intuitive Edge: Trusting Your Gut in Modern Business
Arjun Gill, Director of OptiMICE Events and Founder of Sidwel Healthcare delivered an insightful address on the role of intuition in today’s business world. He explored the often-debated topic of whether gut instincts hold value in decision-making, both professionally and personally.
“Many argue that intuition has no place in business, favouring logic and data instead,” Gill remarked. He delved into the dictionary definition of intuition as an “instantaneous reaction to a fact or truth, devoid of reasoning.” This led him to question whether intuition is truly without reason or if there is more beneath the surface.
Gill referenced a podcast by Dr. Ivan Meisner, Founder and Chief Visionary Officer of BNI, where Meisner described intuition as a “holistic summary” of past experiences and rapid decision-making. He emphasized that intuition is not just a gut reaction but a culmination of learned knowledge applied swiftly to solve challenges.
He shared a personal experience from a 2016 training with Commander Anupam Kaushal, a management trainer and leadership coach. “Kaushal advised hiring for attitude and training for skills,” Gill noted, highlighting how this concept resonated with him and shaped his approach to recruitment. Over the years, Gill has honed his gut instincts, believing that intuition needs to be continually sharpened to remain effective.
Gill concluded with a powerful quote that resonated deeply with him: “That thing you call intuition, it is your soul, and you should trust it.” This message, he suggested, is one to carry forward, underscoring the importance of trusting one’s instincts in both business and life.
Today’s Traveller Summit – Leadership Discussions
The Today’s Traveller Summit, a landmark occasion in the travel and tourism calendar, drawing the industry’s most influential figures—from top executives and government officials to renowned travel influencers and celebrities – opened with the Leadership Discussions.
The Today’s Traveller Summit serves as a platform to discuss the future of travel and tourism, with a sharp focus on innovation, sustainability, and the evolving dynamics of the global travel economy. Attendees had the unique opportunity to participate in insightful panel discussions, listen to keynote speeches from industry leaders, and engage in networking sessions that fostered collaboration and partnership.
Trailblazers at the Table: Young Turks Envision the Future
The Summit featured a series of impactful panel discussions and addresses by industry leaders beginning with a compelling session titled “Trailblazers at the Table: Young Turks Envision the Future,” where some of the brightest minds in the hospitality industry came together to share their visions for the future.
The panel featured industry leaders such as Atul Jain, Chief Operating Officer, Best Western Hotels & Resorts; Hoshang Garivala, Country General Manager, The Ascott Limited; and Anupam Dutta, Chief Acquisition Officer, Sterling Holiday Resorts Limited. Moderated by the astute Rattan Keswani, Consultant and Author and Erstwhile Dep Managing Director, Lemon Tree Hotels Ltd and President Trident Hotels. The discussion was both engaging and forward-thinking, offering insights into the strategies that will drive the industry forward.
Rattan Keswani, moderating the panel led a thought-provoking discussion on the future of the hospitality industry. He underscored the importance of innovation and elevating guest experiences as central to the industry’s evolution. Keswani highlighted the transformative impact of AI, noting how it is revolutionizing operations, personalizing guest interactions, and boosting overall efficiency.
Additionally, Keswani questioned the concept of identity transaction, exploring with panellists how hospitality brands can maintain authenticity while adapting to the rapidly evolving expectations of modern consumers.
During the discussion, Anupam Dutta emphasized the importance of bringing in new perspectives, stating, “As we move forward, we’re bringing in fresh talent from outside the industry, especially those with an anthropological mindset who have a deeper understanding of consumer behaviour.”
He also shared key insights from their market research, revealing that “40% of Gen Z is interested in adventure tourism, 30% embraces the ‘You Only Live Once’ (YOLO) mindset as part of their hospitality preferences, and only 10% are content with a more relaxed approach. Given these insights, the employees within our organization must reflect the evolving desires of our future consumers.”
Hoshang Garivala underscored the need for a hybrid model in response to market demands in regions like India and other parts of Asia. He explained, “In markets like India and other parts of Asia, we’ve realized the need for a hybrid model. Our research revealed that, much like how hotels are incorporating serviced apartments to meet demand, we need to adapt to these changing preferences.”
He added, “In such a dynamic market and industry, it’s essential to keep an eye on the future. Young professionals bring fresh ideas and a desire for quick action, which is why we’re heavily focusing on AI and innovations like apps that drive change.”
Atul Jain reiterated, “We’re embracing a blend of traditional marketing strategies and modern Gen Z tactics, like social media and AI, to enhance our hotels’ reach and services. One of our key initiatives is sustainability, which we’ve prioritized by installing E-charging stations at our properties. We’ve also ensured these stations are tagged on Google, making it easier for customers to locate the nearest charging point while enjoying food and beverages at BW hotels.” This forward-thinking approach reflects the organization’s commitment to staying relevant and competitive in an ever-evolving market.

Future-ready Hospitality: Workforce Challenges and Gen Alpha
It was followed by an impactful talk by Dimitris Manikis, President, EMEA Wyndham Hotels & Resorts. He delivered a thought-provoking address on “Future-ready Hospitality: Workforce Challenges and Gen Alpha” focussing on the workforce challenges posed by the arrival of Gen Alpha.
In his address, Dimitris Manikis drew from his personal life experiences to reflect on the shifting social values over time, particularly concerning the emerging Generation Alpha (Gen Alpha). He explained how the Gen Alpha cohort, shaped by the pervasive use of technology, is increasingly being referred to as the “Glass Generation”. This term reflected their constant interaction with digital screens and gadgets, which has significantly influenced their worldview and behaviour.
He further highlighted the importance of compromise in both daily life and professional settings, contrasting this with the tendencies of Gen Alpha. Said Manikis, “This generation is characterized by a strong aversion to compromise, with a distinct emphasis on their own time and priorities.”
In addition to these observations, Manikis also touched on the rising trend of solo travel among Gen Alpha, noting how this preference reflects their desire for independence and self-discovery. This trend, he suggested, is reshaping the hospitality industry, as businesses must adapt to meet the unique needs and expectations of this new generation of travellers.
Through his address, Manikis provided a comprehensive overview of the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead for the hospitality industry as it prepares to engage with Gen Alpha, a generation that is poised to redefine the landscape of work and travel.
Building Brand Loyalty: Driving Growth in a Competitive Market
Setting the stage for a lively discussion was a compelling panel on “Building Brand Loyalty: Driving Growth in a Competitive Market“. The panel, which included Dimitris Manikis, President, EMEA Wyndham Hotels & Resorts and Parveen Chander Kumar, Executive Vice President – Sales & Marketing, Indian Hotel Company Limited was moderated by the veteran entrepreneur Sudhir Gupta, Chief Executive, TLC Relationship Management.
This session brought together these key leaders from the hospitality sector to delve into effective ways of cultivating and sustaining consumer loyalty in a highly competitive market and explored the evolving expectations of modern consumers and the strategies needed to meet them.
Sudhir Gupta, put forward questions on the need to create loyalty point systems that offer genuine value, thereby strengthening emotional connections with customers. He asked how the importance of utilizing data and AI technology enhances brand loyalty, highlighting how these tools can provide deeper insights into customer behaviours and preferences.
While recognizing the role of technology, the panellists agreed that maintaining personal connections remains crucial, positioning technology as a complement to, rather than a replacement for, the human element in building lasting brand loyalty.
Dimitris Manikis pointed out, “The secret to a successful programme is burn and earn, the famous way of where you earn and where you burn – for example, if you earn with a hotel group the question that follows is where do you burn the points? You burn them on airlines, car rentals, or shopping. That is the most critical point on your point calendar. I can earn points but where can I burn them? This is the crux of loyalty programmes.”
Parveen Chander Kumar, shared, “In our case, there is a very interesting factor – our loyalty programme is connected to the TATA loyalty programme which means that you could use your points on everything from BigBasket to luxury stores of TATA Cliq to CROMA stores and now, even Air India. We thus have a very unique loyalty programme. What it did for us is that when we started we had 2 million people connected to us and we tripled that number within three years ie 6 million people who are purely our dedicated users.”
Delhi: A Living Chronicle of Heritage
This was followed by a brilliantly produced short Video Presentation by Delhi Tourism which was wonderfully evocative of the city’s legendary charm. The video presentation not only celebrated Delhi’s heritage but also reaffirmed its role as a leading destination for cultural tourism in India.
Delhi, a city steeped in history and vibrant culture, seamlessly blends the ancient with the modern. With roots tracing back to the epic Mahabharata, when it was known as Indraprastha, the city has witnessed the rise and fall of many empires. Over the centuries, eight more cities emerged alongside Indraprastha: Lal Kot, Siri, Dinpanah, Quila Rai Pithora, Ferozabad, Jahanpanah, Tughlakabad, and Shahjahanabad.
Old Delhi, once the bustling heart of the Mughal Empire, still pulses with life in its narrow lanes, historic havelis, and bustling bazaars. The city proudly houses three UNESCO World Heritage sites—Qutub Minar, Red Fort, and Humayun’s Tomb—each a testament to the architectural brilliance of past emperors.
In contrast, Central Delhi reflects the city’s colonial legacy with its grand avenues, stately buildings, and landmarks like Rashtrapati Bhavan, Parliament House, and India Gate.
Fireside Chat: Envisioning 2047: Goals and Aspirations for India Tourism & Hospitality
In a brilliant fireside chat, industry veterans K B Kachru, Chairman, Radisson Hotel Group, and Rahul Pandit, President & Executive Director – Hospitality, Valor Estate, delved into the long-term goals and aspirations for India’s tourism and hospitality sectors. Their discussion offered a forward-looking perspective on what the industry might look like in 2047, highlighting the challenges and opportunities ahead.
In his introduction to the fireside chat, Pandit fondly referred to KB Kachru as the “Chancellor of the hospitality industry.” Pandit encapsulated KB Kachru’s extensive experience and skilful navigation of the industry’s complexities with the philosophy of “Respect sensitivities but align to the market and use a collaborative approach.”
Kachru shared a memorable encounter with the then Prime Minister of India, Hon’ble Indira Gandhi, saying, “It was a state dinner for 120 Presidents and Prime Ministers, and we were summoned to the Prime Minister’s residence to discuss the menu. As it was the Christmas and New Year season, I suggested Roast Turkey, which she agreed was a great idea. But then she unexpectedly proposed adding Hyderabadi Biryani to the menu as well.”
He added, “I was taken aback, knowing the distinct flavours of both dishes could clash. I suggested choosing one or the other, but she reacted sharply, remarking, ‘This is the youth of India; they are not ready for change.’ We ended up serving both dishes and despite my initial reservations, they were well received. However, we did place the dishes separately on the plate to preserve their flavours.”
This engaging session emphasised the need for adaptability to ensure continual growth and development. Both industry leaders stressed the importance of maintaining a positive attitude, gratitude, and humility as key attributes for achieving success in the hospitality sector.
Pandit highlighted the significant role of tourism in India’s economy, noting, “Tourism contributes 6.23% to India’s GDP and 8.78% to employment. It punches above its weight, adding 40% more than any other industry. Yet, despite this, we haven’t progressed at the pace we should have. Why is that?”
In response, Kachru emphasized the need for action within the industry, stating, “We need to walk the talk. The industry has been discussing for a long time what it takes to achieve significant milestones, like contributing 1 trillion dollars by 2047.” He pointed out the critical role of investor motivation, noting that most current investments come from High Net Worth Individuals (HNIs) with minimal social investment.
Kachru questioned, ” What is the incentive for investors to engage in capital-intensive ventures like hotels without a clear, long-term strategy?” He urged for a comprehensive vision, asking, “Why would people invest in our business unless there is motivation and we take an umbrella view of where we want to be in the next 20 years?”
Kachru also pointed out the ongoing struggle to obtain industry status for tourism, saying, “Seventeen states have already granted industry status, but execution remains ad-hoc. If we aim to create 50 million new jobs, we need to establish a platform that attracts investment in India, leading to an increase in hotel rooms and employment. Resolving 50% of India’s unemployment problems could be within reach if the government fine-tunes its tourism policies. We’re not asking for subsidies, just for the policies to be set right.”
He further added, “From the industry’s side, we need to address work-life balance and compensation. The youth of India won’t be drawn to the current working conditions unless these issues are addressed.”
Pandit proposed a transformative approach, suggesting that tourism should be integrated into school and college curriculums. “By doing this, we will achieve several key objectives,” he explained, emphasizing the importance of teaching respect for institutions, pride in our heritage, and appreciation for national monuments.
Pandit argued that incorporating tourism into education would not only foster a sense of national pride but also create a new business segment focused on educational travel, reinforcing initiatives like “Swachh Bharat, Surakshit Bharat” at the grassroots level.
Pandit also highlighted the potential for job creation, envisioning the development of a national cadre of tourism educators. Drawing a parallel to India’s IT revolution in the ’90s, he stated, “IT today contributes double what tourism does. I think it’s time for a Tourism Revolution.” By embedding tourism in the curriculum, Pandit believes India can cultivate a new generation of tourism entrepreneurs and expand the industry significantly.
Radisson Hotel Group Unveils the Radisson India Charitable Foundation
Radisson Hotel Group made an impressive presentation with “Radisson Cares.” “I am honoured and privileged to unveil the Radisson India Charitable Foundation, ” announced Vikram Berry, Director of Marketing and Communication, South Asia, Radisson Hotel Group.
Driven by a deep commitment to Responsible Business, the Radisson Hotel Group operates under three core pillars: Think People, Think Community, Think Planet. A true reflection of these values is the Radisson India Charitable Foundation, which was established during the difficult times of COVID-19 in 2021 under the leadership of Chairman K.B. Kachru. The foundation emerged as a vital source of support within the RHG ecosystem, assisting colleagues and their families during one of the most challenging periods in recent history.
He invited Yogendra Agnihotri, Area Senior Director, People and Culture, South Asia, Radisson Hotel Group to elaborate further on the philosophy of Radisson Cares. Agnihotri explained that in its early stages, the foundation concentrated on offering educational and healthcare assistance to the children of colleagues who had passed away. Today, the foundation has expanded its mission to serve the broader public, with a special focus on “Education for Youth.”
Every year, the entire Radisson community comes together to support various initiatives that strengthen the foundation’s resources.
“A recent highlight was the RHG South Asia Walkathon,” said Agnihotri where team members from across the country, from Srinagar to Kochi and Kandla to Imphal, united in a show of solidarity. The event was a tremendous success, raising approximately 12 lakh rupees in just one weekend, showcasing the collective power and commitment of our teams to the foundation’s mission,” shared Agnihotri.
Sobha Limited showcases world-class quality products and workmanship in landmark developments
A video presentation by Sobha Limited, one of the finest real estate development companies in India, showcased world-class quality products and workmanship in landmark developments across the country.
Seizing Opportunities: The Next Wave of Investments in Hospitality and Tourism
Another standout session, “Seizing Opportunities: The Next Wave of Investments in Hospitality and Tourism,” featured insights from visionaries like Snehdeep Aggarwal, Founder and Chairman, Bhartiya Group, and Sanjay Saraf, Chairman, Saraf Group. Moderated by the charismatic Rajiv Kaul, Founder, Kaul Advisory, the panel explored the new wave of investment opportunities within the industry, emphasizing the critical role that strategic investment will play in shaping the future.
Their discussion centred on the remarkable growth in the number of hotel keys across India over the past three years, highlighting how resorts have outperformed city hotels in recent times. The leaders provided an insightful analysis of the factors contributing to this trend and discussed the growing appeal of resort destinations.
Rajiv Kaul observed, “Currently, we have around 200,000 keys, with about 50,000 of those added in the past three years. The sector is gaining traction, as evidenced by the rising transaction values. For instance, the transaction value was approximately 3,000 crores, and this year, we’re anticipating a 30% increase in that volume.”
Reflecting on the industry’s evolution, Kaul noted, “Thirty to forty years ago, hotels were predominantly built by hotel companies. Then, real estate developers entered the scene, seeking to diversify their portfolios with hotels as part of a broader ecosystem, alongside retail and commercial properties. Over the past decade, we’ve experienced a period where hotel values were eroding. Now, we’re witnessing a return to an era where we’re not only creating value but also generating significant returns.”
Snehdeep Aggarwal stated, “As the economy improves, our desire to spend quality time with ourselves grows. We seek to experience life beyond the basics of ‘Roti, Kapda, and Makaan.’ To me, a resort is a place where we can immerse ourselves in the beauty of life, away from the routines of everyday living.”
Reflecting on tourism, Aggarwal pointed out, “Last year, we welcomed around 10 million tourists, many of whom were business travellers staying in cities. However, very few of them visited our resorts in significant numbers. The potential here is immense, with plenty of low-hanging fruit to be harvested. A resort, in essence, is about experiencing life and taking the time to truly unwind.”
He added, “I can point to numerous examples of extraordinary resorts around the world. Unfortunately, we haven’t created new resort destinations since the British left; no new Shimlas or Mussoories. While we have religious centres, there’s a real opportunity to develop resorts that offer unique experiences.”
Continuing the discourse, Sanjay Saraf remarked, “We’re planning to introduce a branded luxury resort combined with branded villas for sale, which is relatively uncommon in India. This concept is poised to be a game changer in the hospitality industry. It will be similar to a branded residence model integrated with hotels.”
Saraf continued, “Post-COVID, people in India are seeking larger, more spacious accommodations, with a growing demand for what I call ‘silent luxury.’ The idea of understated, refined luxury has started to resonate with the Indian market. As people travel more, the Indian market continues to mature, as it experiences a shift in lifestyle that it hasn’t seen before.”
The conversation also delved into future investment opportunities within the hospitality industry, emphasizing the sector’s untapped potential and the need for strategic investments to capitalize on this momentum.

Leadership Makeover: The Rise of Development Leaders in Hospitality Companies
Capping off the day was the electrifying panel, “Leadership Makeover: The Rise of Development Leaders in Hospitality Companies,” where distinguished industry leaders such as Anil Chadha, Divisional Chief Executive, ITC Hotels; Mohit Nirula, Chief Operating Officer, The Oberoi Hotels; Sudeep Jain, Managing Director, IHG; Nikhil Sharma, Managing Director and Area Senior Vice President (ASVP), South Asia, Radisson Hotel Group and Zubin Saxena, Senior Vice President & Regional Head, South Asia, Hilton shared their insights on the evolving role of leadership in hospitality.
The stand-out session, moderated by the seasoned specialist Mandeep S. Lamba, President, South Asia, HVS, provided a nuanced discussion on how development leaders are reshaping the industry, setting new standards for growth and innovation.
Mandeep Lamba initiated the panel discussion with a thought-provoking question: “It’s a rare opportunity to have five CEOs leading India’s hospitality industry together. I want to know, what’s keeping you busy, and what do you see happening in the next five years?”
Mohit Nirula responded, “Our focus right now? We must continue growing our portfolio while maintaining the same ethos, culture, and dedication to detail—hallmarks of the bespoke luxury we represent. That’s the challenge that keeps us fully engaged right now.”
Nikhil Sharma added, “This year, we’ve already signed more than 20 hotels, with 20 more new openings already completed and 13 more set to launch by December. That’s what’s keeping us busy, along with the task of developing talent as we expand.”
Anil Chadha emphasized, “Our time is now, and if we don’t keep up the pace, the opportunity will slip away. We’ve all been waiting for this. The single point agenda is growth—the growth of your brand and the growth of your people, both of which are deeply intertwined. Over the last two years, we’ve had a good run, opening 32 hotels, and the pipeline remains robust with the launch of two new brands.”
Chadha added, ” We’ve also been heavily focused on our restaurant operations. I’m particularly proud of the growth opportunities we’ve provided to our managers and employees. Overall, India is in a strong position, and this isn’t the time to walk; it’s the time to run and lead the company accordingly.”
Jain echoed the sentiment, stating, “What’s keeping us busy boils down to three main activities: opening new hotels, signing new hotels, and recruiting new talent. The third task, recruitment, is taking the most time.”
Saxena outlined his company’s clear objectives: “Our mission is to have 75 hotels either operating or in the pipeline by 2027. In the next two years, we have 20 hotels set to open, and we’re on the verge of signing our 50th hotel within a couple of weeks. The short-term goal is to reach 75 hotels, and we’re on track to achieve that. Equally important is maintaining India’s best workplace culture throughout this growth, as rapid expansion can often come at the expense of other critical aspects that cannot be overlooked.”
Lamba brought the discussions to the changing demographics in the hospitality industry, noting that the younger generation is more educated, socially aware, and has higher expectations than before. Chadha agreed as he highlighted the shift toward significant investment in employee satisfaction, contrasting it with the past when jobs were taken for granted. He emphasized that the new generation’s impatience for rapid career growth has pushed hotels to create more advancement opportunities.
Jain added that employees now prioritize work-life balance, and outdated policies, such as banning personal cell phones or tattoos, need to be reconsidered. Saxena underscored the need to identify problems before implementing solutions, suggesting that the best general managers might come from outside the industry. He also advocated for part-time options to attract and retain talent in a sector with diverse career paths.

He emphasized the vital importance of striving for excellence, remarking, “Every citizen and entrepreneur has a fundamental duty not merely to complete tasks but to execute them in a manner that leaves no room for improvement.”
Justice Joseph shared a poignant anecdote from his early days as a judge. He recalled how a mentor once advised him, saying, “A well-written judgment should be one that, upon re-reading, could not have been written better.” He also reflected on his early career as a lawyer, recalling another mentor’s counsel: “Argue each case with such thoroughness and conviction that, regardless of the outcome, you can be assured it could not have been argued better.”
He continued, noting that while it is often tempting to leave things to fate, “It is crucial to first ensure that you have put forth your utmost effort before doing so.” This guiding principle, he shared, has been a cornerstone of his life and work. Justice Joseph encouraged the audience to adopt this mindset, especially in the fields of hospitality and entrepreneurship.
He urged everyone present to cultivate a passionate commitment to excellence in all their endeavours, concluding with, “It’s not just about excellence, commitment, or passion individually but rather a combination of all three that drives true success.”
