Tokyo Fashion Award 2023 winner brand TANAKA unveiled a new collection featuring clothes beyond time and gender on the last day of Rakuten Fashion Week Tokyo 2023 A/W.
The New York-based label showed the presentation on March 18 with the theme: “Clothing that connects the past and next 100 years. Clothing that goes beyond time and gender.”
Models walked across the floor, wearing urban-style clothes ranging from baseball jackets to multiple-colored suits as clear notes of the piano echoed through the hall. Some models had spiky hair reminiscent of that of the Statue of Liberty.
“Strength, curiosity, and an inquiring mind are what we need to keep facing forward to survive the world,” the brand said in a statement.
“Fragility is the most beautiful and precious part of human beings,” it said. “We expressed those elements in our 2023FW collection “TO LIVE” and use them to spin out the way TANAKA sees the world.”
TANAKA won the Tokyo Fashion Award 2023 along with other Tokyo-based brands such as VIVIANO, TENDER PERSON and IRENISA, AKIKOAOKI.
The biannual fashion event in the Japanese capital drew to a close, giving the stage to 58 houses during the six-day parade. Of them, 42 brands presented in-person runway shows with the remaining 16 labels opting for digital presentations.
